Bridal Hair and Makeup Advice
Bridal Hair and Makeup Advice for the Bride Who Wants to Look Like Herself

Hair and Make Up by Blo Dry Bar Katy.
When my husband and I got married 14 years ago, one of my closest friends gave me a wedding gift that I didn't fully appreciate until the morning of my wedding.
She paid for my professional hair and makeup.
At the time, I thought it was a luxury.
Today, after owning Brandt 1910 and watching hundreds of brides prepare for their wedding day, I realize it was one of the most thoughtful gifts I received.
The funny thing is, I'm probably not the person most people would expect to be writing a blog about bridal beauty.
I wear very little makeup on a daily basis. I rarely spend much time on my hair. And despite many attempts over the years, I still can't curl my own hair to save my life.
If that sounds familiar, this blog is for you.
Many of the couples who celebrate at Brandt 1910 aren't planning the same wedding they might have envisioned in their twenties. Some are planning a second marriage. Others are celebrating a love story that found them later in life. Many have grown children, grandchildren, established careers, and full lives.
And one thing I hear over and over again is:
"I don't know what to do about my hair and makeup."
For many women, it may have been decades since they sat in a stylist's chair for a special occasion. Some have never had professional makeup applied at all.
The good news?
You don't need to become someone else on your wedding day.
You simply need to be the best version of yourself.
Your Wedding Day Is Not About Looking Younger
One of the biggest misconceptions in the wedding industry is that bridal beauty is about transformation.
I disagree.
Especially for women over 50.
Your wedding day isn't about trying to look 25 again.
It's about looking rested, confident, joyful, and beautiful exactly as you are.
The man you're marrying fell in love with your smile, your laugh, your kindness, your wisdom, and the life you've built—not because you mastered contouring techniques or spent hours watching beauty tutorials.
The best bridal hair and makeup should enhance your natural features rather than hide them.
When you look at your wedding photos years from now, you should recognize yourself immediately.
That's the goal.
Why Professional Hair and Makeup Is Still Worth It
Even if you rarely wear makeup, there are several reasons I encourage brides to consider professional services.
First, weddings are long days.
You'll likely spend hours taking photos, greeting guests, hugging family members, dancing, eating, laughing, and maybe shedding a few happy tears.
Professional artists understand how to create a look that lasts through all of it.
Second, wedding photography sees things differently than the human eye.
A makeup look that appears natural in person often photographs beautifully because it has been applied specifically with professional photography in mind.
The same is true for hair.
What looks effortless often requires professional expertise to remain in place from your first photograph to your last dance.
And perhaps most importantly, it allows you to relax.
Instead of worrying about your eyeliner or whether your hairstyle will survive the Texas humidity, you can focus on what truly matters: getting married.
Advice for Brides Who Don't Consider Themselves High Maintenance
One of the things I love most about many of our Brandt 1910 couples is how down-to-earth they are.
These are women who have raised families, built careers, volunteered in their communities, and learned what really matters in life.
They're not looking for drama.
They're not chasing trends.
They simply want a beautiful wedding day.
If that's you, here is my advice:
Don't feel pressured to choose a hairstyle because it's trendy.
Don't feel pressured to wear dramatic lashes if you've never worn them before.
Don't feel pressured to choose makeup that feels unfamiliar.
Instead, choose a look that feels comfortable.
If you normally wear your hair down, consider a softer style that reflects your everyday personality.
If you typically wear minimal makeup, tell your stylist exactly that.
A professional beauty team can create a polished, elegant look while still keeping everything natural and timeless.
Why We Recommend Blo Dry Bar Katy
As a wedding venue owner, I've worked with many vendors over the years.
When it comes to bridal beauty, one of my favorite recommendations for our couples is Blo Dry Bar Katy.
One reason has nothing to do with hair or makeup.
It's reliability.
One of the biggest concerns brides have is wondering whether their beauty professional will actually show up on wedding day.
Unfortunately, stories about last-minute cancellations, illnesses, scheduling issues, or communication problems are more common than most people realize.
When you choose an established company like Blo Dry Bar Katy, you're not depending on a single individual.
You're working with a professional team that has systems, support, and experience serving wedding clients.
For many brides—especially those planning weddings later in life who simply want a stress-free experience—that peace of mind is invaluable.
Schedule a Trial Even If You Think You Don't Need One
One piece of advice I give almost every bride is to schedule a trial appointment.
This is especially important if:
- You rarely wear makeup
- You haven't had professional makeup applied before
- You're unsure what style suits you best
- You're concerned about looking overly made up
- You wear glasses regularly
- You have mature skin concerns
A trial removes uncertainty.
It gives you the opportunity to see exactly how everything will look before your wedding day arrives.
Most importantly, it builds confidence.
By the time your wedding morning arrives, you'll know exactly what to expect.
One of My Favorite Parts of a Wedding Day
As a venue owner, I've watched hundreds of ceremonies.
But some of my favorite moments happen before guests ever arrive.
It's the quiet moments in our bridal suite.
A bride sipping coffee.
A daughter helping her mother with jewelry.
Friends sharing stories.
Family members laughing together.
A woman looking in the mirror and seeing herself ready to walk into the next chapter of her life.
Those moments never get old.
And they're often even more meaningful for couples who have already experienced much of life's journey and understand the significance of finding love again.
Let Yourself Be Celebrated
If you're like many women over 50, you've spent decades taking care of other people.
You have likely been the organizer, the caregiver, the problem-solver, and the person everyone depends on.
Your wedding day is one of the rare opportunities to simply receive.
Let someone style your hair.
Let someone apply your makeup.
Let someone bring you coffee.
Let your family celebrate you.
Let your venue team support you.
Let yourself enjoy the experience.
You have earned it.
The Most Beautiful Brides Are the Ones Who Are Comfortable
After fourteen years of marriage, I couldn't tell you the exact products used on my wedding day.
I don't remember the brand of lipstick.
I don't remember the hairspray.
What I remember is how I felt.
Confident.
Relaxed.
Beautiful.
That's exactly what I hope for every bride who walks through the doors at Brandt 1910.
Whether you're planning a second marriage, celebrating later-in-life love, or simply want a wedding day that feels authentic and stress-free, professional hair and makeup should help you feel like yourself—not someone else.
Just a little more polished.
A little more rested.
A little more radiant.
And completely ready to begin your next chapter.
